“The map of emotions”

Last week we talked about creating an interest for your child’s own emotions.

In today’s “1 minute Peppy Parenting” we talk about different feelings that your child could experience in different situations by using “The map of Emotions”. The purpose is to show your child that it is OK to feel differently.

The map of emotions

Exercise; Use the map above (or draw your own). Let your child color their map using different colors for different feelings.

Ask; Can you point at one feeling and think about something that makes you feel that way? Repeat for each feeling.

Discuss;

  • Which feeling did you like the best?
  • What can you do to be… (Ex. happy, afraid)
  • What do you do when you are…
  • Is it possible to decide what to feel in different situations?

Purpose; To shed light on the fact that it is OK to feel differently and that all feelings are equally important.
