During a day your child experiences a lot of emotions that you might not be aware of; it could be at school, soccer practice or simply before going to bed. As a parent, the worst feeling is to miss out on something important that happened in your child’s life.
One easy way to be more involved is to give him/her the opportunity to talk about at least one of his/her emotions each day in relation to something he or she did. To guide you, this week’s “1 minute Peppy Parenting” is about Today’s Emotions.
Exercise; This could be done during dinner, when picking up your kids from school or right before going to bed. It doesn’t really matter where, the important thing is that you make it an every day thing.
Ask; What feelings did you feel today at school/practice/kindergarten.. etc.?
- Which feeling is the strongest today?
- What could influence your emotions? A friend, teacher, something you saw on TV?
- Which feeling do you feel most often at school/practice/kindergarten?
Purpose; To evaluate and prioritize one’s own feelings as well as to sense the day’s emotions.
